Volunteer Opportunities

Our dedicated volunteers are essential to our ability to provide our clients with a wide array of services.  We would love to have you join us; there are lots of ways you can help.

To begin volunteering, please fill out our volunteer intake form.

Bethesda Cares does not accept volunteers who have been convicted of violent crimes, crimes of a sexual nature, or identity theft crimes. Bethesda Cares reserves the right to decline any volunteer or to limit which days or hours a volunteer can work and the right to dismiss a volunteer at any time during their scheduled time.

Lunchtime Workers

Volunteers are needed Monday through Friday to prepare and/or serve client meals. Help us on-site or make some casseroles or a hearty soup and bring them along.  We also welcome bagged lunches for our clients to take along with them, to enjoy later in the day.

Dinnertime Workers

Our Sunday meal is a dinner at Our Lady of Lourdes Church in Bethesda. Click here to sign up online.

Weekday Office Work

Monday through Friday, our Drop-In Center’s check-in desk is staffed by volunteers, who answer telephones, sort client mail, chat with clients and keep our coffee-pot full. Morning shifts are from 8:45am-12:30pm, and afternoon shifts are from 1:45pm to 3:45pm.

Special Projects

Church mission projects? Eagle Scout project? School Community Service project? Whether you would like to plan a special event for Bethesda Cares’ clients, hold a food, clothing or toiletry drive or host a fundraiser, we are happy to work with you to make your inspiration a reality. Use your own gifts and creativity to help Bethesda Cares in ways that are meaningful to you. Please tell us more about your project idea using our volunteer intake form.

Organize a Drive

Bethesda Cares is always in need of item donations for currently homeless and recently housed clients. You can organize a drive at your school, religious or civic organization to benefit Bethesda Cares. If you would like, we’ll even come by to speak with your group to help kick off your drive.

Find out our current item donation needs.

Please note that we cannot accept partially consumed or expired food items, and regrettably do not have the capacity to clean or repair donated clothing.

Children Can Help, Too

Want to get your children involved?  We have age-appropriate ideas for elementary-aged children and up, such as making Welcome Home Cards or assembling bagged snack packs.
